Access is gained through an ancient Lych gate opposite the 11th Century Church which is part of the hamlet of Colan. Fabulous countryside beckons from the doorstep with country lanes, woods and the fantastic Cornish coastline is only 3 miles away. If you enjoy surfing then visit Newquay and one of its 7 award winning golden beaches. Within a few miles radius you could visit the National Trust's Trerice House, go Mediterranean or Tropical at the world famous Eden Project, or even cycle the Camel trail from Wadebridge to Padstow. If you love good food then you will be just as happy visiting any of these areas to sample world renowned cuisine. From the shared walled garden and private screened patio area, enter through double French doors and find this well-appointed Cornish cottage. The characterful lounge has a lovely garden outlook and with its own fireplace will keep you cosy on cooler evenings. This 350 year old Cornish farmhouse holiday home oozes character and charm. It has been sympathetically restored and features original slate flagstone floors, natural wood doors and oak flooring. The enormous farmhouse family kitchen is fitted with handmade solid wood units around a large racing green AGA cooker, a really special place to gather the family for leisurely meals whilst planning the days ahead. A separate utility room and rear hall has lots of space for storing any amount of boots, coats, and beach equipment or even pushchairs. This area includes a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is access to a large downstairs bathroom, with fitted shower over the bath. This facility is ideal when returning from a day surfing or playing on one of seven award winning local sandy beaches. A steep wooden staircase from the farmhouse kitchen leads up to a large triple bedroom right under the eaves. With sloping ceilings and views over the gardens to the sea at Porth, this makes a great family or teenage bedroom. Three steps up from the kitchen you will find a spacious and comfortable family sitting room. This beautiful room has many original features such as a settle built into the fireplace which houses an enormous Hunters wood-burning stove. The ground floor accommodation is completed by a separate second sitting room ideal for children, with games and books. Situated a few miles inland from the dramatic North Cornwall coastal towns of Wadebridge, Padstow and Camelford and in an area known for its natural beauty, Hengar Manor offers peace and quiet amongst its 35 acres of gardens, woodland and three fishing lakes. On site facilities also include an outdoor woodland playground, as well as indoor leisure centre with swimming pool and slides and a spa and beauty centre. With such comprehensive leisure facilities on site there really is no need to venture further afield, as no matter how the weather is, there is entertainment for all ages on site. For those wishing to explore the area there are many famous towns, villages or gardens to visit close by, as well as gorgeous beaches within a few miles from Padstow to Tintagel.


Drakes is a large 'A frame' lodge style dwelling and is part of a terrace of five properties. Entrance is gained directly from a small front patio, where garden furniture allows you to sit in a nice sunny space. Be prepared to welcome the feathered visitors who regularly come calling for some left-over bread or cakes and who the lodge is named after. Double patio doors open into the open plan living and dining area. This spacious room has comfortable seating for all and a large farmhouse pine dining table. This is an ideal spot to plan what exciting activity to sample next and where meals can be enjoyed. The compact alcove kitchen opens from the inner hallway and provides all the essential equipment needed for holiday meals. However with an on-site restaurant offering Italian food and a tavern bar offering a more traditional menu, you may find you eat in less than expected. The ground floor is completed by a twin room and both a family bathroom with WC and basin, as well as a separate shower room with WC and basin. This offers a very flexible and practical sleeping arrangement. The central open-tread staircase leads up to a further two bedrooms. These two large rooms are almost the same size, offering lots of space, which is ideal if you are travelling with a young child and need to place a travel cot. The spacious master bedroom has the added advantage of a balcony with seating, protected by the pitched roof of the lodge. Heating throughout the lodge is from night storage heaters with extra independent heaters if required, ensuring you stay is warm and cosy all year round. Drakes is a great base for an activity packed family holiday and as it is closely sited next to Mallards and Coots, could be taken jointly with family or friends.

After meandering your way inland a short distance from some of Cornwall's finest beaches and eating places and you will discover picturesque countryside and tranquil villages. Nestling in a beautiful wooded valley surrounding the hamlet of Colan, you will find Gwel an Lagen adjacent to its sister property, Bos Lowen. Cottages in Newquay hardly appear in such idyllic surroundings. From humble beginnings as a farm building, these two studios have been transformed into cosy self-catering cottages perfect for a couple to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Colan Barton estate. The studio cottages are a mirror image of each other with Gwel an Lagen being the property on the right, to greet you on arrival. The cottage is situated 30 yards from the main house and although you are totally independent, it can be booked as part of Colan Barton if desired.
Gwel an Lagen has views through a small copse, from its open patio area to Colan Church. Dating from 1250 the church has always been part of Colan Bartons landscape. Entrance into Gwel an Lagen is via a stable door into the kitchen / dining room with slate flooring and bespoke kitchen. Three steps down lead to the spacious vaulted living - sleeping area. A large comfortable sofa and a log burner on a raised hearth add a welcome homely and romantic touch. Relax by watching TV with Freeview, play DVD's or listen to music on the I-Pod docking station with CD player and radio. The bathroom is equally spacious with contemporary quality fittings and beautifully tiled floors and walls. As well as enjoying the large paddock with pond, stroll through the local woods and visit the ruins in the Hoblyn estate or venture further afield to Porth reservoir.

As you approach Colan Church via country lanes with traditional high hedgerows, you know that peace and tranquillity will be surrounding your visit. This recently converted barn has been tastefully and stylishly re-fitted to a very modern specification. Although staying true to its roots as a 400 year old farm building, its delightful transformation enjoys a unique use of the internal space. If you are looking for a completely secluded, romantic hide-away, which is only a 10 minute drive from the stunningly beautiful Cornish coastline at Porth, then this is the cottage for you. There are many other famous attractions to easily visit from Colan, including the Eden Project, maritime Falmouth, or city shopping in Truro. Entry to the barn is via the front garden patio area and huge floor to ceiling glass doors, into the spacious kitchen and dining area. Year round comfort is ensured with under-floor heating throughout the cottage. The minimalist free standing kitchen units sit to one side, allowing uninterrupted garden views from the dining area. A useful under-stairs storage area even includes specific shelving for surf boards. The ground floor is completed by a tiled wet room with Monsoon head shower fitment.
