At Maryport there is the Harbour, Maritime museum and Aquarium of the Lakes. The border City of Carlisle is within 30 minutes drive. Now a cosy 1 bedroom holiday cottage, Galloway Cottage is situated in the village of Crosby, 1 mile from the Cumbrian coast and 2 miles from the harbour town of Maryport. The beach is a fantastic place to walk your dog with views across the Solway to the Scottish Hills. Good food and drink is available at the Stag Inn, within 400 yards. It sits on the banks of Sandy Beck, a haven for wildlife and birdlife, including deer, red squirrels and kingfishers. The Smithy was converted from the former Blacksmiths forge by the owners in 2008. They retained the character, with vaulted ceilings and wooden beams and complemented it with the use of high quality furnishings throughout. Lorton, Crummock Water and Buttermere are nearby, with spectacular walks on the surrounding fells. The nearest pub serving bar meals is 2 miles and a wealth of amenities are available in the vibrant market town of Cockermouth, 4 miles.
