Newbiggin Hall is steeped in history and was built originally as a pele tower in 1304, a place of refuge from Scottish raiders and feuding border families, providing shelter for humans and animals. Subsequent re-building and additions in the 17th and 18th century have created a handsome country house. The location is perfect as a base to visit the Lakes, Carlisle, Hadrians Wall, the Scottish Borders and the Eden Valley. The nearest pub is approx. 1 mile and Carlisle has an abundance of amenities, great shopping, superb dining and places of interest such as the Cathedral, Castle and Tullie House Museum. The extensive 3 acre garden provide an idyllic spot to relax and unwind, with very large lawns, flower borders and a woodland which kids will love to play in. The neighbouring property of Millerdale has the same owner and the 2 cottages may be let seperately or together for up to 11 people. Kiln Howe lies adjacent to Kiln How Beck in the centre of Threlkeld village along a short lane off the main street. Threlkeld sits at the foot of the mighty Blencathra, which can be viewed from outside the cottage, and lies just 4 miles to the east of Keswick and 15 minutes drive from the motorway. The Horse and Farrier public house and restaurant is within 100 yards and the Salutaion Inn, which serves bar meals, is approximately 200 yards. There is a footpath leading from the cottage directly onto Blencathra, which rises steeply above the village, infact there are so many walks locally your car may be parked up for the week.
