Accommodation overview: The peaceful village of Finsthwaite nestles amongst large ares of woodland one mile from Lakeside at the southern end of the Lake Windermere and close to Hawkshead and Grizedale Forest. The area offers some excellent walking opportunities, much favoured by Wainwright, including the circular 5 mile walk to High and Low Dam, from where the waters drove the nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill. Accommodation overview: A mere 2 miles from Coniston, Torver is a peaceful hamlet with east access to some of the best mountain bike routes, water borne activities and walking in the National Park. Low level walks toward Walna Scar and in to the village itself are ideal for first time visitors and, for the more experienced, Coniston Old Man must not be missed. Torver has two excellent hostelries offering speciality ales and excellent food, Wilsons Arms and The Church House, with further good pubs and everyday shops in nearby Coniston.
