Accommodation overview: This Wroxham holiday home is a wing of a stately early 19th century hall. Set amidst extensive parkland. Wroxham and Hoveton are at the very heart of Broadland, and are excellent locations for fishing, sailing and bird watching. The River Bure divides the two villages, commonly called Wroxham. It is home to the Bure Valley Railway, Wroxham Barns and Roys, 'the biggest village store in the world'. Both day boat hire and sailing tuition are available locally. It is also just eight miles from Norwich, with the sandy beaches of the East Coast a twenty minute drive away. Hoveton Hall is a stately early 19th century house surrounded by extensive parkland. The East Wing is self-contained with large and sunny rooms, decorated and furnished in traditional style. The three spacious bedrooms can easily accommodate six people. However, by closing off two of the bedrooms, we are also able to offer the Wing at a reduced price for two people. Once an important place of pilgrimage, the ruins of Bromholm Priory are still to be seen in Bacton today. The Priory was built in 1113 AD by William de Glanville and was home to the Cluniacs, the Black Monks who purchased a piece of the True Cross, the Bromholm Roode. Ensuing miracles ensured visits by many thousands of pilgrims including King Henry III. The Priory was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, the Domesday Book, and was the subject of a prediction in Mother Shipton's Almanac. Today the coastal village opens its doors to the 21st century pilgrims who visit for their holidays. They enjoy the friendly village atmosphere and the sandy beaches, which are often quiet even in the height of summer. Thurgarton is situated in rural North Norfolk where the countryside is criss-crossed with quiet lanes for riding a horse or bicycle, and walkers can enjoy the nearby Weavers Way. It is a perfect location for a get-away-from-it-all holiday yet still offers easy access to all of Norfolk's attractions. The traditional seaside resorts of Sheringham and Cromer with their sandy beaches and rock pools are approximately six miles away, or a little further west is the enormous stretch of sand and dunes at Holkham Bay. There are several National Trust properties to visit and Norwich boasts a fine cathedral as well as restaurants, theatres and galleries.
