Ingoldisthorpe is a small village situated on the edge of the Sandringham Estate betwixt the villages of Snettisham and Dersingham. It is surrounded by rolling countryside and the seaside resort of Hunstanton is just minutes away. A little further afield you will find the wide sandy beaches of Brancaster and Holme. The village is well placed for ornithologists with the excellent reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham. Once an important place of pilgrimage, the ruins of Bromholme Priory are still to be seen in Bacton today. The Priory was built in 1113 AD by William de Glanville and was home to the Cluniacs, the Black Monks who purchased a piece of the True Cross, the Bromholme Roode. Ensuing miracles ensured visits by many thousands of pilgrims including King Henry III. The priory was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, the Domesday Book, and was the subject of a prediction in Mother Shiptons Almanac. Today the coastal village opens its doors to the 21st century pilgrims who visit for their holidays. They enjoy the friendly village atmosphere and the sandy beaches, which are often quiet even in the height of summer. East and West Rudham villages flow into each other and are situated in a very pretty area of West Norfolk. East Rudham has a lovely village green with a "gastro" pub and one of the most visited shops in Norfolk. Stately homes abound with Houghton Hall and Holkham in the area. The market town of Fakenham has an excellent market on a Thursday and a visit to the auction rooms on the same day, can be very educational! The sandy beaches of Wells, Hunstanton and Holme are a short distance by car and of course there is excellent bird watching at both Titchwell and Holme nature reserves.
