Accommodation overview: The hamlets of Lowick Green and Lowick Bridge sit at the Southern most tip of Coniston Water in an area of beautiful open countryside. This is rural Cumbria at its best, Lowick being a fine example of a village, hosting an annual agricultural show every September, to include Cumberland wrestling, fell running and hound trails. Ulverston, home to Stan Laurel, is a mere 7 miles away to the South with Coniston itself only 15 minutes drive. The cottage is located across the road from the Farmers Arms, a 14th Century coaching Inn, offering fine food and a real country pub atmosphere with local ales and open fires. Thorn Cottage is a substantial property of great character, evidenced in original floorboards and exposed beams. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous pictures around the house depict its ancient past and the refurbishments in recent times have been done sympathetically and with great care. The cottage is very comfortable and spacious, just the spot for a family get together, whatever time of the year. Please note that due to its age, the house does have a number of small steps here and there and you should be careful to either bend or bump.

Accommodation overview: Uncles Cottage is an ideal base for guests arriving on public transport, it is situated 200 yards from the bus stop in Keswick town centre. Shops, pubs and restaurants are literally on the doorstep and there are dozens of lovely walks directly from the town. The owners completely renovated and refurbished the cottage when they took possession from his Uncle in 2010 (no prizes for guessing where the name came from). They have created a pleasant open plan living area on the ground floor, complete with new kitchen. The first floor has been redesigned to improve the bedroom space, a new bathroom was fitted and the ceilings were raised to expose the roof beams.

Grange Cottage is situated in the grounds of Fieldside Grange and just oozes character, with open fire, oak beams nad the benefit of its own private garden area looking out over open fields. There are walks from the door and plenty of amenities in Keswick, approx 1 1/2 miles. The Queen of the English Lakes, Derwentwater, is within 2 miles with magnificent walks around the surrounding fells. The peaceful location of Grange Cottage makes a fabulous place to relax after a hard days walking and away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

It is an easy walk to the centre of the village with its pubs, restaurants and shops and onwards to the shores of the lake. Ullswater, is the second largest lake at 7.5 miles long, the lake offers a variety of water-based activities from canoeing; sailing and windsurfing to a leisure cruise on one of the famous steamers. Many walks start in the Ullswater Valley from the trek up to Helvellyn to low level strolls along the shoreline. There are many places to visit nearby including Dalemain Historic house and gardens, Rheged, Aira Force and The Alpaca Centre to name just a few! The bustling town of Keswick is only 25 minutes drive away.
