Accommodation overview: This 18th century cottage was newly refurbished in 2008 and further improved in 2010, yet retains its original charm and character, with beamed ceilings and feature stone walls. Windy Nook is situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Pooley Bridge, on the north eastern edge of Ullswater, one of the Lake Districts most attractive lakes, at the point where the River Eamont and Ullswater meet. The 16th century bridge over the Eamont gives the village its name and offers beautiful views of the lake and the neighbouring fells. The village and the surrounding area are also of historical interest. Dunmallard Hill, adjacent to the village was the site of an Iron Age Fort and is one of a number of ancient sites dotted around the locality. The village has three good quality pubs which serve food together with tea rooms and a small number of shops providing essentials from groceries and out door equipment to souvenirs. The Ullswater steamers also depart from here providing trips along the seven mile lake to Howtown and Glenridding.
