And after a fun filled day on the fells or by the waters edge, return to the contemporary luxury of Mr Harvisons with comfortable lounge areas, sumptuous bedrooms ensuring a good nights rest and individually chosen, interesting pieces of artwork and accessories. The open plan living area is ideal for a casual and social dinner although with so many great places to eat in Ambleside, Lucys, The Glass House and The Log House to name but three, we wonder whether the super facilities on offer here will actually be used to their full advantage? A small terrace to the rear of the cottage is just the spot for an aperitif before dinner or for taking in a breath of fresh Lakeland air when our weather will allow whilst cooler evenings will no doubt be spent gathered around the wood burning stove either in the elegant lounge or cosy snug, recalling the days events and planning the next.

Newly built in 2004 and designed with a cottage style in mind, The Spinney is luxuriously furnished and equipped with a Four Poster bed and cosy open fire giving a romantic air to the accommodation. Situated in the village of Lamplugh in a wonderful rural location 6 miles south of Cockermouth, it is close to Loweswater, Ennerdale Water and Crummock Water. This peaceful non-commercialised area of the Lake District is the perfect setting for a romantic break. Fishing is available locally at Cogra Moss, which is within walking distance and there are many other beautiful walks locally. The Coast to Coast cycle route goes past the front door and the award winning Kirkstile Inn is close by for bar meals. Cockermouth is well worth a visit, with shops, restaurants, Brewery Tours and the Lakeland Sheep and Wool centre to name a few of the attractions. Trotters Animal World is a mere 20 minute drive and the seaside town of St Bees is a similar distance.

Accommodation overview: Grange-Over-Sands and surrounding districts are a delightful area of the South Lakes, offering an interesting selection of historic seaside resorts and quaint rural villages. Grange is an elegant town, with a long, sweeping promenade fronting the Bay, lined with antique and collectors shops and cafes. Cartmel famous for its Priory and race meetings is well worth a visit, if only to sample the local sticky toffee pudding. Allithwaite is a short drive from both Grange and Cartmel and is only about 7 miles from the southern tip of Lake Windermere with easy access to the higher fells. Fairview, an end terrace cottage, has been completely renovated to provide exceptional levels of comfort. The accommodation is set out over three floors. The enclosed garden is reached from the lower ground floor, just the spot to enjoy eating al fresco in the warm summer months.
