The market town of Helston (10 miles) has good facilities for visitors, including tennis courts, putting and bowling greens, cinema, swimming-pool and famous Blue Anchor pub, which brews its own beer. Nature lovers will find a great deal of interest in this area. On the eastern side of the peninsula, around the estuary of the Helford River, there are some beautiful gardens to visit. Glendurgan Gardens (NT) has a magnificent collection of rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias, as well as tree ferns and bananas which flourish in the wonderfully mild climate of this region. At nearby Gweek is the National Seal Sanctuary which cares for rescued seals. Within easy reach is Penzance, with regular trips to the Isles of Scilly, and charming St Ives.
